Kiyosumi-shirakawa - Feel Relaxed at Kiyosumi Garden and Park

Koto(江東) is an eastern area of Tokyo, where is not only a Shitamachi(下町, Japanese Traditional Residential Area) but also stands many apartments whose inhabitants normally commute to the center of Tokyo.

Not only that, however!

We can also feel relaxed if we go to Kiyosumi Garden(清澄庭園, Kiyosumi Teien) and Kiyosumi Park(清澄公園, Kiyosumi Koen) in Kiyosumi-shirakawa(清澄白河), Koto!

Kiyosumi-Shirakawa - Public Kiyosumi Garden Originated from Entrepreneur's Garden

Kiyosumi Garden was formerly a garden of Iwasaki's Family(岩崎家, Iwasaki-ke), who founded Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi(三菱).

In 1924 the Iwasaki Family donated the Japanese garden to Tokyo City Government and the metropolitan government opened the large garden to the public in 1932.

So now every visitor can enjoy walking around and feel relaxed in Kiyosumi Garden.

There was formerly Iwasaki's mansion in Kiyosumi Garden.

Kiyosumi Shirakawa - Full of Nature in Kiyosumi Garden

Kiyosumi Garden, one of representative Japanese gardens in Tokyo, is beautifully colored by flowers like hydrangea(紫陽花, Ajisai) and Japanese Iris(菖蒲, Shobu).

Not only humans visit the garden, but also animals like birds, fish and turtles enjoy the beauty of the Japanese garden.

Kiyosumi-Shirakawa - Kiyosumi Park, Oasis of Koto habitants

In contrast to Kiyosumi Garden, where we have to pay 150 Yen as entrance fee, Kiyosumi Park next to the Japanese garden is an entry-free large park.

We can enjoy eating lunch and doing sports freely at weekends in Kiyosumi Park.
