Until Edo Era(江戸時代, Edo Jidai from 1600~1868), it is said that many Kiyosumi-shirakawa residents were engaged in fishing industry because the area was not so far from Tokyo Bay(東京湾, Tokyo Wan) at that time.

So they developed Fukagawa-meshi(深川めし, donburi with boiled clams by soy sauce), which is even now known for the famous local cuisine, and Tsukudani(佃煮, seafood simmerd in soy sauce).

We can easily find restaurants and shops which offer Fukagawa-meshi or Tsukudani in the Shitamachi.
