Nihonbashi - The Starting Point of Japanese Roads and Leading Shopping Area in Tokyo

In the heart of Tokyo there are many shopping areas.

Nihombashi(日本橋) has department stores and a historical bookstore where is very worth shopping.

Nihonbashi - Historical Site from which All Japanese Roads Start

Nihonbashi originally means Japan Bridge, which was built in 1603 as a starting point of the then Go-kaido(五街道, meaning Five Roads).

Now the historical bridge is unfortunately fully covered with Metropolitan Expressway(首都高速道路, Shuto-kosokudoro) which was built in 1964 when Tokyo Olympic Games was held.

So some demand that the expressway is moved into underground so that the bridge becomes an open air bridge again.
